THE COLONY, TEXAS - February 28, 2006 - When someone calls Judy
Allison a bitch, she stands a little taller, throws back her
shoulders, and turns the insult into a badge of honor. Allison is
redefining the epithet and making it an acronym for "Babe in
Total Control of Herself." Through two websites that carry
apparel, denim jackets, office sets, and gifts -
http://www.empowerware.net and http://www.bitchware.net - Allison
and her business partners are encouraging women to stand up for
themselves.
"The concept behind the company is simple," says Allison. "We
want to empower women of all ages to embrace who they are, who
they can become, and to be proud to be female." To that end, her
sites offer B.I.T.C.H.-related products ranging from denim
jackets and t-shirts to lingerie and gifts, all designed to be
fun and stylish.
Allison, along with two breast cancer survivors in the company,
are also on a mission to empower cancer survivors. As such, both
EmpowerWare.net and BitchWare.net carry what she calls
"SurvivorWare". Straw hats, T-shirts, and tank tops proclaim, "I
am a Fighter and a Survivor," "This B.I.T.C.H. is a Survivor,"
"My Friend is a Fighter and a Survivor," and many other sayings.
Should B.I.T.C.H. not appeal to some women, the "proud to be a
'Babe in Total Control of Herself' movement" offers a number of
alternative definitions for the acronym:
Beautiful, Intelligent, Tough, Charming, Honest
Bright, Impressive, Tender, Classy, Humane
Brave, Independent, Thoughtful, Carefree, Heavenly
Brainy, Influential, Trendy, Compassionate, Helpful
Bewitching, Impulsive, Triumphant, Competitive, Humanitarian
Brash, Interesting, Thankful, Charitable, Heroine
In other words, "Babe In Total Control Of Herself"
"We reject the notion that a B.I.T.C.H is a mean, spiteful, bad-
tempered, and unpleasant woman," says Allison. "Instead, we see a
woman who is proud of herself, who stands up for herself, who
knows what she wants, and who is willing to take risks - while
being pleasant and feminine," she concludes with a smile.
