TUCSON, AZ - March 23, 2005 - For years, emergency workers, doctors
and nurses have faced a serious dilemma in treating emergency
patients. Being unable to know or obtain the person's health history
information and/or current medications can lead to hazardous flaws in
the treatment of the patient, and even death in some cases.
When a person is seriously injured or has a sudden severe health
condition to arise, the person is normally unable to relay their
personal and medical history to the attending doctor, nurse or
emergency worker.
Studies show that the fourth largest killer is adverse drug reaction,
which can occur when the doctor does not know the patient's medical
history and medication or food allergies.
While the "information age" has allowed for much improvement in the
overall care of patients over the past several years, there still
remains a glitch in the system. Patients may have an ID or a driver's
license available, but neither of these will aid the doctor in their
treatment of the patient right away. New technology has recently been
developed which fills in this gap while maintaining simplicity for the
doctors and patients.
ReadMyChart.com, a key website which securely stores medical
information for patients, announces availability of its service to the
general public. Patients will now be able to store their vital
information at the HIPAA compliant website. When an emergency occurs,
the patient's membership sticker, attached to the driver's license or
ID, reveals that their information can be found at ReadMyChart.com.
The emergency worker, doctor or nurse can simply visit the website and
log on to the patient's online chart with their ReadMyChart ID and
viewing password.
The website makes it possible to store important facts about the
patient such as allergies, current or past medications, and other
health needs. ReadMyChart.com also goes a step further and allows the
patient to include if they have a pet at home that needs care or other
special needs that deserve immediate attention.
Jere Dixon, the firm's CEO and founder, developed ReadMyChart.com
after 20 years of working with medical record storage and processing
for hospitals, clinics, and medical offices. He began working on the
system after one of his own family members came to near death from an
accident due to the fact that her medical records were not available.
"All the years I worked on computer systems in the hospitals and
medical offices prepared me for what I believe is my true purpose in
life - this website and to help others. So many people are injured
daily, and yet when they arrive at a treatment center they actually
get worse, because the doctors attending them don't know the
background of the patient. With ReadMyChart.com, we can make a
difference," states Dixon.
