WHITESBURG, GA - January 3, 2008 - Now you can experience a real
Canopy Tour without leaving the country! This hidden treasure of
Georgia is only 45 minutes from Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson Airport.
Located in Carroll County, Ga., the New Tree Flight Canopy Tour is
situated right in the middle of the Historic and Beautiful Snake Creek
Gorge and ghost town of Banning Mills. As one of the longest and
highest canopy tours in the world and with heights topping 200 feet,
awesome zip lines, over a mile and a half of cable and wood bridges,
and an extreme canopy walk that criss crosses over the gorge, this is
one experience you don’t want to let slide by you.
Tree Flight Canopy is part of the Adventure Treks available at Banning
Mills Country Inn and Retreat. Just recently reopened past a
devastating fire in 2006, Banning Mills has been rebuilt to resemble
the original paper mill that was part of the town in the 1800’s. With
a small interpretive center that takes you through the Creek Indian,
Civil War and Industrial Mill town era, lodging, meeting venues, and
on site chef, it is easy to combine romance, adventure and productive
business retreats here.
“Tree Flight has been a long time in the making and a dream come
true," states Mike Holder (founder). Originally, we started out with
a very unique low and high ropes team building course and added the
horseback riding, skeet range and kayaking for our adventure treks.
We wanted to add a very special adventure opportunity and came up with
the Canopy Tour. The topography, canopy tree ecosystem, amazing
history and beauty of the Snake Creek Gorge needed to be shared with
others. What better way than to get a bird’s eye view of it all?
The canopy tour is a “challenge by choice”. “No one gets pushed off,”
states Donna Holder (founder). And what a challenge that first line
is. Stepping out onto this tiny platform 70 feet above ground,
hooking up to the first zip line that is over 1,000 feet long and 200
feet high is a cross between stomach in your throat fear and total
exhilaration. “We have done this hundreds of times," states Luke
Lindval who is head facilitator for the team building and canopy tour
courses at Banning Mills, “but it never gets old."
